Historical review

Radio FIKSZ was established by the FIKSZ Association in November 1991.

The first emission was broadcasted from the top of a tower block in Szentendrei street on 8th March 1992, with a title:" The state won't make decisions insted of me- the abortion is a personal affair" - which was against the planned law for the restriction of procured abortion.

On 10th July 1993. we broadcasted a morning programme on one of the route of the tram number 18 - which was the "FIKSZ tuja".

Between 13-19 September 1993., the 24 hours long programme with the title: "Without hate" helped the preparation for the permanent broadcasting.

Between 18 - 25 August 1994. we were operating 24 hours a day from the Student Island in Budapest under the name Sziget Radio ( Radio Island).

From 8th October 1995.-in 36 hours a week, and from October 2000., we are permanently present in the ether in 72 hours a week on 98 MHz, on CCIR URH bandwidth, on cable network and on the internet ( in the beginning in Real Audio ). Our emission through the internet is permanent from March 2004, consequently 168 hours/week.

With the help of the supports that we won on the technical development tenders, as well as, with lots of voluntary work, we established not only one of the most modern radio studio, but also a high speed internet service which makes possible our programmes to be permanently listened through the internet all over the world.

The image, profile and principles of Radio FIKSZ

Radio FIKSZ is a communal radio, the member of the Hungarian Free Radio Organization. It is not commercial, as profit is not it's goal, but only the maintenance of it's operation. It is not a civil service, because it's programmes are not meant for everyone. It's aimed audience is the thinking youth. Young people, who are not interested in disco music and pulp fiction, but who like nice pop music, classical music and high standard literature, as well as, who are interested in the most modern technology and in public life, as well.

The music image of Radio FIKSZ is characterized by progressive rock-, rock-, metal-, aternative-, folk-, jazz- and classical music.

Radio FIKSZ pays increased attention on the disadvanteged, national-, ethnic- and ideology minorities. It is engaged in the capital city's and in the country's environment protection problems. It reports about the cultural events for the youth and organizes parties itself from time to time. Radio FIKSZ considers for it's important task to support the healthy lifestyle and propagate each human thought.

The radio is interactive, which means that it increasingly requires the listeners to have voice in the programmes. Nowadays, we insure several tools for it: telephone, sms, on-line web-forum and chat. Our staff is formed in a way that a young listener walks into our studio "from the street" and becomes our co-worker.

The friendly, happy, intimate, human programmes of Radio FIKSZ are suggesting the importance of solidarity, cooperation and communal existance, not only by its topics but also by the staff's behaviour. Radio FIKSZ helps East-European region's people's reconciliation and the tolerance towards each other by its special tools and cultural layer- programmes.

Everybody makes the programmes of Radio FIKSZ freely, for pleasure, without income, and taking into consideration the internal rules of the radio. Anyone, who accepts the principles ( freedom, friendliness, humanity ) and image requirements, can become a co-worker of Radio FIKSZ.

Radio FIKSZ creatively took part in the preparation of law for electronical mass media ( media act, telecommunication law, frequency-economy law, territorial and departmental regulations etc. ). It has a role in the establishment of the up-to-date "FIKSZ-2" sign-typed radio broadcaster , which is used by other smaller radio-stations, as well.

Radio FIKSZ is first of all in cooperation with Organizations and Institutes which are dealing with the problems of underpriviliged layers, minorities, environment protection and civil society - and within it first of all with the youth. About the merits of Radio FIKSZ, concerning the orientation of the youth, the European Union's Hungarian Ambassador, the Hungarian Radio and Hungarian Television several times expressed its appreciation.
